Goose It is proud to have ambassadors who represent the game of lacrosse on an international level, and one of those voices is Yuhki Murayama from Australia. Yuhki’s journey began at a young age and has taken him from curious beginner to dedicated goalie and passionate advocate for growing the game. In this interview, he shares how he found lacrosse, the challenges he’s faced, and what excites him about being part of the Goose It family.
Discovering the Game
Yuhki first picked up a lacrosse stick at the age of 12 after a local player visited his school for a demonstration. Quickly hooked, he joined his local Modcrosse team (modified version of lacrosse) and threw himself into the sport, often practicing on the wall to sharpen his stick skills. While he started out at attack, his natural instincts and quick reactions led him to the goalie position, where he discovered his true calling. From that moment on, he committed himself to mastering the toughest role on the field.
Overcoming Challenges
Playing lacrosse in Australia hasn’t been without its hurdles, especially for a goalie. Yuhki shared that one of the biggest challenges was the lack of dedicated goalie coaches and limited access to high-level training resources compared to the United States. To keep improving, he studied tapes, watched countless lacrosse DVDs, and found ways to teach himself the finer details of the position. His determination to keep pushing forward highlights the passion and self-motivation that fuel his love for the game.
Lacrosse in Australia
While lacrosse continues to grow in Australia, Yuhki explained that it looks very different compared to the US. The sport typically starts at a later age, around 10 to 12, whereas in places like Baltimore, kids grow up with sticks in their hands. Despite this gap, Australia is making steady progress, with more resources, better funding, and involvement from US coaches helping to elevate the game. Yuhki is optimistic about the future and believes the sport has a bright road ahead in his home country.
Partnering with Goose It
For Yuhki, joining Goose It as an international ambassador is about more than apparel, it’s about being part of a movement. He loves that Goose It has redefined what lacrosse clothing can look and feel like, moving away from outdated designs toward stylish, comfortable lifestyle apparel that players actually want to wear. As a business owner himself, he admires the hard work and persistence that built the brand, and he’s excited to see how far Goose It will grow in the years to come.
