Mann Cup: Six Nations and A Historic Three-Peat

The Six Nations Chiefs have cemented their place in lacrosse history with a remarkable 2025 Mann Cup victory, completing a rare three-peat and further solidifying their dynasty in Canadian box lacrosse. Facing off against the New Westminster Salmonbellies, the Chiefs overcame early adversity in the series and closed things out with a commanding Game Seven performance. This championship not only marks their ninth Mann Cup overall but also continues Ontario’s dominance in the national finals, extending the province’s streak to eight straight titles.

Battling Back After a Tough Start

The road to the championship was anything but easy. New Westminster came out strong, taking the first two games of the best-of-seven series and putting the Chiefs on their heels. However, Six Nations responded with resilience, tying the series in Games Three and Four with decisive victories. The Salmonbellies briefly regained momentum in Game Five, but the Chiefs showed their trademark composure under pressure, bouncing back to claim Game Six and setting the stage for a dramatic winner-take-all Game Seven.

Game Seven Dominance

The deciding game highlighted the Chiefs’ ability to rise in critical moments. With the score tied early in the third period, Six Nations found another gear, sparked by Dhane Smith’s go-ahead goal that shifted momentum back in their favor. From there, the Chiefs’ offense surged, with Ian MacKay, Lyle Thompson, and others finding the back of the net as the defense locked down New Westminster’s attack. By the final buzzer, the Chiefs had pulled away for a 12-7 win, leaving no doubt about who the better team was in the series.

Championship Heroes

Individual performances also played a massive role in the team’s success. Ryan Smith earned the Mann Cup MVP award after leading all scorers in goals, while Dhane Smith paced the series in points, showcasing his versatility and clutch play. Veterans like Cody Jamieson and Randy Staats added to their impressive resumes with another championship, while several younger players celebrated their first Mann Cup victory. Together, the Chiefs’ mix of seasoned leaders and rising stars proved to be the perfect formula for a historic three-peat, one that will be remembered for years to come.
